Commerford Zoo at the Big E

I went to the Big E yesterday and was really shocked to see that an ELEPHANT was being used to give rides! I cannot believe that in this day and age, in Massachusetts, a member of an endangered species which is known to have great self-awareness, intellingence and need for social bonds, is being forced to walk around in a small lot in the hot sun and kept in a trailer truck! There was also a "petting zoo" which I did not enter.

If you are as distressed about this as I am, I urge you to contact the Big E and let them know. Their email address is: exponews@TheBigE.com

If you'd like to know more about the Commerford Zoo's record, please see this URL:

Elizabeth Warren RUNNING for the SENATE!

Dinah From Talking Points Memo:
Former White House financial reform adviser Elizabeth Warren will officially launch her campaign for U.S. Senate from Massachusetts on Wednesday, challenging incumbent Republican Sen. Scott Brown, a source close to Warren told TPM on Tuesday.

“The pressures on middle class families are worse than ever, but it is the big corporations that get their way in Washington,” Warren said in a statement. “I want to change that. I will work my heart out to earn the trust of the people of Massachusetts.”

ACT BLUE's first endorsement for 2012 is for Elizabeth Warren for the MA Senate.

"No one in the country is a fiercer, and more successful, advocate for stopping Wall Street, big corporations and big banks from ripping off the American people. We've been encouraging Professor Warren to enter the race since February. Now it's time to make sure she wins."

If you'd like to support her campaign here's the link:

More on Socialism

President's socialist takeover must be stopped
By Jeffrey T. Kuhner
The Washington Times

President Obama has engaged in numerous high crimes and misdemeanors. The Democratic majority in Congress is in peril as Americans reject his agenda. Yet more must be done: Mr. Obama should be impeached.

He is slowly - piece by painful piece - erecting a socialist dictatorship. We are not there - yet. But he is putting America on that dangerous path. He is undermining our constitutional system of checks and balances; subverting democratic procedures and the rule of law; presiding over a corrupt, gangster regime; and assaulting the very pillars of traditional capitalism. Like Venezuela 's leftist strongman, Hugo Chavez, Mr. Obama is bent on imposing a revolution from above - one that is polarizing America along racial, political and ideological lines. Mr. Obama is the most divisive president since Richard Nixon. His policies are Balkanizing the country. It's time for him to go.

He has abused his office and violated his oath to uphold the Constitution. His health care overhaul was rammed through Congress. It was - and remains - opposed by a majority of the people. It could only be passed through bribery and political intimidation. The Louisiana Purchase, the Cornhusker Kickback, the $5 billion Medicaid set-aside for Florida Sen. Bill Nelson - taxpayer money was used as a virtual slush fund to buy swing votes. Moreover, the law is blatantly unconstitutional: The federal government does not have the right to coerce every citizen to purchase a good or service. This is not in the Constitution, and it represents an unprecedented expansion of power.

Yet Obamacare's most pernicious aspect is its federal funding of abortion. Pro-lifers are now compelled to have their tax dollars used to subsidize insurance plans that allow for the murder of unborn children. This is more than state-sanctioned infanticide. It violates the conscience rights of religious citizens. Traditionalists - evangelicals, Catholics, Baptists, Muslims, Orthodox Jews - have been made complicit in an abomination that goes against their deepest religious values. As the law is implemented (as in Pennsylvania ) the consequences of the abortion provisions will become increasingly apparent. The result will be a cultural civil war. Pro-lifers will become deeply alienated from society; among many, a secession of the heart is taking place.
I would add that, he has also granted hundreds of waivers to groups, organizations and companies that supported his candidacy, who claimed hardship if not excluded from Obamacare. dwr
Mr. Obama is waging a frontal assault on property rights. The BP oil spill is a case in point. BP clearly is responsible for the spill and its massive economic and environmental damage to the Gulf. There is a legal process for claims to be adjudicated, but Mr. Obama has behaved more like Mr. Chavez or Russia 's Vladimir Putin: He has bullied BP into setting up a $20 billion compensation fund administered by an Obama appointee. In other words, the assets of a private company are to be raided to serve a political agenda. Billions will be dispensed arbitrarily in compensation to oil-spill victims - much of it to Democratic constituents. This is cronyism and creeping authoritarianism.

Mr. Obama's multicultural socialism seeks to eradicate traditional America . He has created a command-and-control health care system. He has essentially nationalized the big banks, the financial sector, the automakers and the student loan industry. He next wants to pass "cap-and-trade," which would bring industry and manufacturing under the heel of big government. The state is intervening in every aspect of American life - beyond its constitutionally delegated bounds. Under Mr. Obama, the Constitution has become a meaningless scrap of paper.

To provide the shock troops for his socialist takeover, Mr. Obama calls for "comprehensive immigration reform" - granting amnesty to 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens. This would forge a permanent Democratic electoral majority. It would sound the death knell for our national sovereignty. Amnesty rewards lawlessness and criminal behavior; it signifies the surrender of our porous southern border to a massive illegal invasion. It means the death of American nationhood. We will no longer be a country, but the colony of a global socialist empire.

Rather than defending our homeland, Mr. Obama's Justice Department has sued Arizona for its immigration law. He is siding with criminals against his fellow Americans. His actions desecrate his constitutional oath to protect U.S. citizens from enemies foreign and domestic. He is thus encouraging more illegal immigration as Washington refuses to protect our borders. Mr. Obama's decision on this case is treasonous.

As president, he is supposed to respect the rule of law. Instead, his administration has dropped charges of voter intimidation against members of the New Black Panther Party. This was done even though their menacing behavior was caught on tape: men in military garb brandishing clubs and threatening whites at a polling site. A Justice Department lawyer intimately involved in the case, J. Christian Adams, resigned in protest. Mr. Adams says that under Mr. Obama, there is a new policy: Cases involving black defendants and white victims - no matter how much they cry for justice - are not to be prosecuted. This is more than institutionalized racism. It is an abrogation of civil rights laws. The Justice Department's behavior is illegal. It poses a direct threat to the integrity of our democracy and the sanctity of our electoral process.

The gun running of "fast and furious" and continuing attempt to cover up, pass the blame and hide from the responsibility by Obama and Holder is indicative of Obama's ignoring the Constitution and his lawlessness. It was undoubtedly an effort to create a public outcry for more gun control. In my opinion, his plan also was to cause chaos for the Mexican citizens by letting the guns go into the drug cartels' hands and terrorize the Mexican citizens. Forcing them to flee north across the border. Which would create a need for a refugee program for the fleeing Mexicans. Hence, an urgent need for amnesty for the sudden influx of illegal immigrants. dwr.

Corruption in the administration is rampant. Washington no longer has a government; rather, it has a gangster regime. The Chicago way has become the Washington way. Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is a political hit man.. He is an amoral, ruthless operator. It was Mr. Emanuel who reached out to Rep. Joe Sestak, Pennsylvania Democrat, offering a high-ranking job in the hopes of persuading Mr. Sestak to pull out of the primary against Sen. Arlen Specter. It was Mr. Emanuel who offered another government position to Andrew Romanoff to do the same in the Colorado Democratic Senate primary. And it was Mr. Emanuel - as the trial of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has revealed - who acted as the go-between to try to have Valerie Jarrett parachuted into Mr. Obama's former Senate seat. The only question was: What did Mr. Blagojevich want in exchange?

This is not simply sleazy Chicago machine politics. It is the systematic breaking of the law - bribery, attempt to interfere (and manipulate) elections using taxpayer-funded jobs, influence peddling and abuse of power.

The common misperception on the right is that Mr. Obama is another Jimmy Carter: an incompetent liberal whose presidency is being reduced to rubble under the onslaught of repeated failures. The very opposite, however, is true. He is the most consequential president in our lifetime, transforming America into something our Founding Fathers would find not only unrecognizable, but repugnant. Like all radical revolutionaries, he is consumed by the pursuit of power - attaining it, wielding it and maximizing it. Mr.. Obama's fledgling thug state must be stopped.

It is more crucial now than ever that the leadership in the House instigate a committee to investigate every aspect of Obama's administration, his cabinet and his czars. He will stop at nothing, we the people should stop at nothing and turn over every stone Obama has placed to bury our Constitution. dwr.

If Republicans win back Congress in November, they should - and likely will - launch formal investigations into this criminal, scandal-ridden administration. Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican and ranking member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has promised as much. Mr. Obama has betrayed the American people. Impeachment is the only answer. This usurper must fall.

The anti-intellectualism of today’s GOP

Dinah Did you know that only 1/3 on the [radical] right believe in evolution, and 1/5 in global warming/climate change. And the blind shall lead the blind ... Jon Huntsman, you're in the wrong party!

Let Paul Krugman tell you about it.

http://www.nytimes.c...e.html?smid=fb-share

Al Gore says we need to confront the science deniers in the same way that people of conscience stood up to the old order racists in the early days of the civil rights movement, and in the same way that the lies of the giant tobacco lobby had to be challenged. Always look for who stands to gain/profit from people's doubts, ignorance, and lack of urgency.

Large multi-national corporate interests (for example, big oil and military contractors), support media which support them. They stay in business by insuring that the truth is obscured. Notice that there is typically little or no mention of climate change in the media each time we have a record-breaking geological or climatological event. What you DO hear are the voices of the insane: Michele Bachmann says God is telling the politicians to listen to the people that we have to rein in spending; Pat Robertson advises that the crack in the Washington Monument is the coming of the Lord; Ron Paul says we should end FEMA altogether, just as people are losing their homes and businesses to these cataclysms. Many seem eager to blame those of other political or cultural persuasions: gays, feminists, secularists, hedonists, sinners, non-believers, etc., all examples of a diverse America.

I can remember from my teens one Republican who stood with great moral character. It was Illinois Senate minority leader Everett Dirksen who quelled a revolt of the conservatives in his own party, and defeated the longest filibuster in Senate history, against the 1964 civil rights bill. I watched some of that filibuster from the gallery. He later explained his support for civil rights: "I am involved in mankind, and whatever the skin, we are all included in mankind."

But that was another time, when legislators willingly worked across the aisle. We need to engage in the conversation of what the GOP is about today. We have to examine how it benefits them to demonize scientists, and science itself. Since a major feature of evolution is diversity, it's easy to see how science itself becomes the enemy to the GOP.

Add your support for tax fairness

Dinah Hi all,

Warren Buffett has a simple message for Congress: Stop coddling the super-rich. I'm standing with Warren for higher taxes on the rich.

http://www.nytimes.c...-the-super-rich.html

MoveOn will deliver Buffett's op-ed, along with all the [375,000+, as of now] signatures, to Congress soon and is aiming to get 400,000 Americans signed on first. Will you join me, Warren and hundreds of thousands of other Americans calling for the rich to be taxed fairly?

http://civic.moveon....rren_letter.email.g0

Thanks, and pass it on!

The Truth Shall Set You Free

CHARLIE REESE'S FINAL COLUMN

A very interesting column.. COMPLETELY NEUTRAL
Be sure to Read the Poem at the end.

Charley Reese's final column for the Orlando Sentinel...
He has been a journalist for 49 years.
He is retiring and this is HIS LAST COLUMN.

Be sure to read the Tax List at the end.

This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article below is completely neutral, neither anti-republican or democrat. Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. It's a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering!

545 vs. 300,000,000 People
-By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

What you do with this article now that you have read it... is up to you.
This might be funny if it weren't so true.
Be sure to read all the way to the end:

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,

Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid...

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
'Taxes drove me
to my doom...'

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Now’s the time

Dinah ... to speak up, and let our voices be heard. The Republicans just LOVED having their debt-making orgy under Reagan and the Bushes. They don't give a crap about the debt! - or jobs! - or the social safety net! This manufactured "crisis" is all about sabotaging the economy, and Obama's re-election. Who cares if America's credit rating goes down, and Grandma's adjustable-rate mortgage goes up? Can you spell T-R-A-I-T-O-R-S?

Please tell Pres. Obama (comments: 202-456-1111) to stand fast. End the Republican's economic siege by invoking the 14th Amendment, which states, in part "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law ... shall not be questioned."

And please call Speaker John Boehner (@ 202-225-0600), and our temporary Senator, Scott Brown as well (@ 202-224-4543): a decade of Republican tax giveaways are responsible for a huge chunk of the debt. If they DON'T pay the bills they amassed, they are hypocrites and deadbeats. We are sick of being held hostage by these selfish abusers of power.

Credo Action: Subject: Tell President Obama: Use your 14th Amendment powers and end the crisis.

Socialism

I'm not sure where the information comes from, that continues to make people believe these 5 sentences are true. (?) It's right up there with the belief that a person can pull themselves up by their own boot straps. History has shown, no man has ever succeeded (or survived very long) without the aid of others.
Perhaps our media propoganda keeps these fallacies alive?

George W. Bush

Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise.

Gore Vidal
The corporate grip on opinion in the United States is one of the wonders of the Western world.

Alex Carey
... the 20th century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: The growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy.

It is also important for the State to inculcate in its subjects an aversion to any "conspiracy theory of history"; for a search for "conspiracies" means a search for motives and an attribution of responsibility for historical misdeeds. - Furthermore, an attack on "conspiracy theories" means that the subjects will become more gullible in believing the "general welfare" reasons that are always put forth by the State for engaging in any of its despotic actions. A "conspiracy theory" can unsettle the system by causing the public to doubt the State's ideological propaganda.

Socialism

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth
out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work
for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does
not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work
because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other
half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is
going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any
nation.

ELECTION 2012 IS COMING

A Nation of Sheep Breeds a Government of Wolves!

Let's Take a stand!!!

Obama: Gone!

Borders: Closed.

Language: English.

Culture: Constitution, and the Bill of Rights!

Drug Free: Make a drug screen mandatory for anyone on welfare and/or food

NO freebies to Non-Citizens!

Re. 0i812’s post: (Wake Up People !!!)

Dinah No surprise: "0i812" has once again copied & pasted the inflammatory words of other xenophobic writers into this forum. It was easy to find the ENTIRE passage on line in the halls of the paranoid right-wing blogosphere: Tea Party Nation, teabook . org, Conservative Viewpoint blogspot, TN Government Watch, faith-hope-love (a homophobic Christian group), Patriot Action Network, Wordpress Blog "Isalmiist Terrorist" (the mis-spelling is theirs), The Idaho Observer, Move America Forward (a far-right PAC), Fellowship of Minds (Conservative Resistance), Tea Party Tempest ("Where the wind blows toward freedom"), Freedom Corner, Illinois Patriot Connection, etc., etc., ad nauseum.

Once again, it's sad to find no original or independent thoughts - though the ones reproduced are, as expected, anti-Islamic, homophobic, radically right-wing, and ignorant to ten decimal places. It's always "Be afraid. Be very afraid". According to truthorfiction . org, there's no evidence that Huma Abedin or her family members are a part of the Muslim Brotherhood, which. even if true, would be no cause for alarm anyway. And Huma Abedin is an American. Even so, the writer makes a leap from "devout Muslim" to "Islamic extremist /radical /terorist".

Given Huma Abedin's marriage to Anthony Weiner, we are taken to the absurd conclusion that this woman had access to state secrets. AND that Islamic radicals are taking over from within. (AND that probably you and I, WE who celebrate our diversity, are the enemy within.) These blind fear-based reactions are stupid, offensive, and tragic.

One thing I love most about being American is that in our country, a Muslim woman and a Jewish man can marry and start a family, as can interracial couples, and - more and more - couples, straight or gay. And the rest of us can go around either in blended families, single, divorced, religion-free, semi-secular, or with our own custom-made spiritualities. And no one will be stoned to death.

Happy 235th, America; may those who have become so sickened by the xenophobic terrors they've been taught, take a few deep breaths and try to bravely enter the Big Tent, where the rest of us dwell.

If you were part of this, I would hang my head in shame.

Huma Abedin Weiner

Through all the talk about Anthony Weiner we have mostly listened to jokes about his private parts and his name. His wife was often mentioned as a victim to his online tomfoolery. Today I want to talk about his wife, Huma Abedin Weiner.
In 1996, while Bill Clinton was president, he and Hillary met Huma while on a trip to Saudi Arabia. It’s unclear what transpired, but she ended up in Washington DC with close ties to the Clintons. We now know she is Secretary State Hillary Clinton’s deputy Chief of Staff. This is a very sensitive position so we would think Huma was well vetted.
Huma Abedin Weiner is a devout Muslim. Her brother, Hassan, works at the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies (OCIS) at Oxford University. He has close ties with the Muslim Brotherhood. The Egyptian Al-Azhar University, is well known for a curriculum that encourages extremism and terrorism, and is active in establishing links with OCIS.
Huma’s mother is co-founder of the Dar El-Hekma women’s college in Saudi Arabia, which has close ties to the Muslim Sisterhood, the female version of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Sisterhood is also known as International Women’s Organization (IWO).
We watched in Egypt as the left sided with the Muslim Brotherhood to take over the country. We are watching the same thing in Libya, only this time we have sent American forces to help the very same people we are fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The left, no matter whether it’s from America or Europe, defends the Muslims at all cost, while making Israel out to always be the bad guy. We are fighting Islamic extremists, and their biggest allies are sitting inside our own government, the Democratic Party. With Huma Abedin Weiner having access to so much classified material, the radicals know our every move.
I have written in the past asking why we have not experienced any major terrorist attacks. I now know the answer. They have no need to destroy or attack what they are taking over from within. The Islamic radicals learned from history when Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev, the former head of the Soviet Union, said that the communist would take over the USA from within, not with weapons. The left is using our schools and televisions to slowly, methodically give over our country to the radical Islamists, who are also the radical left.
You can’t turn on the television without hearing how bad Christianity is, while they defend Islam. Sheila Jackson Lee (D, Texas) is not alone when she stood before the podium and said that Christian abortion clinic bombers were comparable to the 9/11 terrorist, or the countless other Islamic terrorists.
America, we are at war, and the enemy is not across an ocean, it lies within our own borders.

Dear Mr. President:

Dinah "Unless the American people by the millions tell the President not to yield one inch to Republican demands to destroy Medicare and Medicaid, while continuing to provide tax breaks to the wealthy and the powerful, I am afraid that is exactly what will happen."

VT. Senator Bernie Sanders says it for you and me. Bernie Sanders is one of the few in the Senate who is passionately fighting for the survival of ordinary Americans who work for a paycheck. But he implores every one of us to add our voices.

Here's 7+ minutes from his powerful speech on the Senate floor yesterday:

The Senator has a letter to the President which we can and should sign:

Who’s Crazier?: Palin vs. Bachmann runoff

Dinah You get to decide!

http://act.credoaction.com/survey/crazy/

My vote goes to Bachmann because, whereas Sarah Palin is consciously exploiting her 15 minutes, Michele Bachmann seems to be hermetically sealed in a complete bubble of self-delusion. The people (so far) concur; Bachmann is way out - way out in front.

Emily’s List petition to support Wisconsin workers & their families

Dinah A petition from EMILY'S LIST:
NO to the War on Women and YES to putting five strong, progressive women into the Wisconsin's state senate.

http://emilyslist.org/wisconsin/emailpetition/

This past winter, tens of thousands of protesters demanded that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and his Republican allies in the state legislature stop attacking the right of workers to collectively bargain – attacks that hit women and families especially hard. Walker and his cronies awoke a sleeping giant: now Wisconsin voters will head to the polls in a special election this summer to decide if they want to keep six of those GOP senators in office who backed the radical plan to take away state workers’ rights.

IN FIVE OF THOSE SIX RACES, PRO-CHOICE DEMOCRATIC WOMEN ARE RUNNING AGAINST WALKER'S REPUBLICAN ALLIES. We are committed to helping them win: we're going online, on the air, and in the streets with a goal of switching the Wisconsin Senate from GOP to Democratic control and stopping the War on Women in Wisconsin for good. It’s up to us, right now, to prove that there are consequences for their actions – we will not stand for eroding workers’ rights, slashing education funding, and decimating health care. Join EMILY’s List and these five women candidates to send a powerful message to Republicans across the country: Don’t mess with women workers and their families.

Please Sign The Petition:
I am saying NO to the War on Women and YES to putting five strong, progressive women into the Wisconsin's state senate.

Tell Congress: Tax millionaires and billionaires.

Dinah Please take one minute to add your voice for economic justice.
http://act.credoacti...millionaires/?rc=fbp

From Credo Action:
Today marks the TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BUSH TAX CUTS FOR THE RICHEST AMERICANS — one of the biggest economic injustices of the Bush administration and one of the biggest drivers of our federal deficit.

Republicans, who only months ago went to the mat to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy are saying we cannot afford our social safety net because "we're broke."

There is something deeply wrong with our priorities as a country if we're cutting back on services for children and the elderly, the sick and the destitute, and anything that helps the middle class stay afloat while simultaneously cutting taxes for the likes of Paris Hilton and the Koch brothers.

We need an alternative to the morally bankrupt and economically baseless dogma of "tax cuts for the rich, massive spending cuts for everyone else." And the alternative cannot be simply to propose slightly less brutal spending cuts. We need to put tax increases back on the table.

Progressive champions Rep. Jan Schakowsky and Sen. Bernie Sanders are leading the fight for a real solution to our budget crisis. They have each introduced a bill TO RAISE THE INCOME TAX RATES ON PEOPLE WHO MAKE MORE THAN ONE MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR. And they need our help to start changing the narrative around the budget.

I just signed a petition at Credo Action telling Congress to tax millionaires and billionaires. They have close to 200,000 signatures so far. I hope you will add your voice.
http://act.credoacti...millionaires/?rc=fbp

The petition reads:
"Anyone who is making more than a million dollars a year can afford to pay more to prevent brutal budget cuts. Rather than shred the social safety net when we need it most, tax millionaires and billionaires. It's long past time for the super wealthy to pay their fair share."

Tweet it too:

It’s Okay to be TAKEI :)

Dinah Here's a video from George Takei (Mr. Sulu, of course), taking a funny and powerful stand against the Tennessee State Senate, which has recently approved a bill prohibiting the mention of homosexuality in the classroom. It's known as the "Don't Say Gay" bill.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRkIWB3HIEs

I'm Takei, You're Takei. As Seinfeld would have said, "Even if you're not - not that there's anything wrong with it!"

And here's a beautiful follow-up video with a story to remind us that homophobic bullying can be defeated - by each of us.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrJxqvalFxM

Enjoy them both.
From Dinah, happy to have been LEFT BEHIND in the Post-Rapture Apocalypse.

Polly parrots a quack

Dinah Once again, the Beck-worshiping Beckaphile of the Five College Listserv has done it again. Although this time, to give credit, the poster at least implied that the authorship of the commentary was someone else's, and that is at least a step up from no-attribution or pure plagiarism. No quote-marks, though.

Subject: Bill O'Reilly for Glenn Beck

Okay, I'll agree that I may be OCD about this courtesy given to other writers. However, even if attribution to Bill O'Reilly had been made crystal clear by the use of quote marks, the previous poster has not, to my knowledge, done anything but CUT & PASTE publicly-made pronoucements of those in the public realm. I've never seen an original thought, observation, reaction, exegesis, question, free association, defense, or argument posted by this individual. Every post, including this last one, can be easily Googled, and found to be on-line, in complete and unadulterated form, in many places.

... and many more ...

I LIKE a good political argument. It's especially enjoyable and sometimes even productive when someone comes to present their own ideas, and is willing to respond to the ideas of others with some spontaneous and original thinking. I know that having political conversation makes me more open to new ideas, sometimes a little smarter, and sometimes more humble. I just find it depressing to hear one particular poster endlessly parrot other people's words (mostly in refernce to or directly from Glenn Beck, the Great and Powerful), without any personal interpretation, involvement, or investment in those ideas, or how others view those ideas.

Is there anyone out there who likes Glenn Beck, who can explain or support any of his quacky, wacky, or dangerous verbal vomit - without completely depending upon someone else's quotes?

I didn't think so. Cutting and pasting is not equivalent to mentation.
