The Shutesbury Holiday Shop was founded in 2011 to provide a welcoming venue for talented local artists, artisans, crafters, authors and musicians of all ages to show and sell their work and to create a one-stop shopping experience for people who enjoy buying handmade for the holidays. It's that time of year again. Hatfield Book Club is holding its' annual craft fair on Saturday, November 10 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Hatfield Elementary School(behind the library) - Main Street - Hatfield. About 75% of the proceeds from this fundraiser go into the school system - a graduation award, funding declamations, National Geographics, band,and arts/music programs with extra funding going to the library, Food Bank, and Council on Aging.
In addition to crafters, there will be a bake sale. Lunch is in the hands of The Smithsonian.
Our raffle has changed this year. The high-end raffle includes a golf package from Crumpin Fox, a hot air balloon ride, an overnight stay at the Old Mill Bed/Breakfast with various gift cards, plus a few others.

The Five College Early Music Program welcomes students, faculty, and community members interested in auditioning to SING or PLAY in one or more ensembles, including the COLLEGIUM choir, BAROQUE ORCHESTRA (modern string players and adventurous pianists are encouraged to try this!) and chamber music, MEDIEVAL and RENAISSANCE ensembles and VOCES FEMINAE. The auditions are "painless" experiences, held at all the campuses. Performances sponsored by the program feature baroque and Renaissance music played on modern and period instruments and sung in historically-informed style. Consider beginning RECORDER, VIOLA DA GAMBA, LUTE or RENAISSANCE TROMBONE! We also offer instruction on period instruments (recorders, sackbut, viol, lute, etc.) for modern players, in beginning ensembles and lessons. 5 Takes on African Art/ 42 Flags by Fred Wilson winds down on April 19 with a celebration of this innovative year-long exhibition. Visitors will move through the Fine Art Center and the UMCA galleries to experience a series of distinct performances inspired by the exhibition: music from renowned local percussionist Tony Vacca, a performance by actor Kymberly Newberry, an original dance, "Alyma", choreographed by Molly Christie Gonzalez and performed by students from the UMass Dance Department, and a performance by the master storyteller Onawumi Jean Moss.

Recently PVPA's music department has been planning a tour to VA, and it was swiped out from under our feet due to unfortunate circumstances. But the community has made a massive uproar and began to fund-raise so that the tour can still happen. A large effort has been put in by students to make these benefit shows happen, so come see what music the PVPA ensembles & students are made of. There will also be guest musicians!
A raffle or auction will be in play as well!
Everything to raise money for this trip, donations would be greatly appreciated.

ambitious music ‘We Came To Play’ music department tour to Virginia happening April 6—
12, 2018.
PVPA’s four music ensembles (Jazz, Rock, Pop and Acapella ensembles) comprised of 65 student
have come together to create one incredibles communal show. Our bags are packed, the hotels
and buses are booked, and we are ready to go. We are already booked to perform three full length
shows in VA, including one at the famous Busch Gardens. We will also be conducting a half-day
workshop at the Waller Mill Magnet Elementary School, where we will teach students about making
music as a group, and then perform for them.

The beloved head of our music department, Frank Newton, has had a vision of taking our tour
on the road for many years, and took on the huge task of organizing for the past year to make
this vision a reality.
Unfortunately, we were just informed that our major funding source is no longer available.
The entire tour is in jeopardy of being cancelled just two weeks before we’re supposed to
hit the road! Our students have been rehearsing and working non-stop the entire school year to
create this wonderful show. We will NOT give up now. We are determined to save it. That’s
where you come in.

We are tasked with raising $26,000 in just a matter of days (the bus deposit is due on
Monday, TODAY, March 26, 2018). The good news? We think this is actually possible. The response to
our plight has been swift, and the outpouring of support heartening. We are asking friends,

The annual WGBY Wine Lovers Dinner features a seven-course menu carefully designed by a guest chef. This year, the WGBY guest chef is Kevin Dundon, host of the popular PBS cooking show, Modern Irish Food. Dundon will be present at the dinner to help explain his methodologies and ideas. Meanwhile, Dunon's menu will be carefully executed by the culinary team directed by The Log Cabin Executive Chef and Co-Owner Mick Corduff.
Amid seven courses of mouth-watering food will be carefully and expertly paired wines courtesy of Table & Vine. Learn about each pairing, and discover the ways wine and food marry on the palate.

Cheap Art Show, Sunday,11/5 3:5:30, South Deerfield
Once again, C3 Deerfield presents the Cheap Art Show where the art isn't cheap, the prices are!
Creative Community Central (C3) of Deerfield is hosting the 5th Annual Cheap Art Show at the Polish American Club in South Deerfield on Sunday November 5 from 3-5:30pm. This exhibit is based on the Bread and Puppet Cheap Art Manifesto: “Art is FOOD. You can’t eat it but it FEEDS you. Art has to be CHEAP and available to EVERYBODY.” The aim of this special one-day show is to make art affordable and showcase the vast local talent in Deerfield and surrounding towns.
C3 has invited people of all ages – “artists” and “non-artists” alike to submit two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) art that will sell for no more than $15 per piece. All unframed 2D art will be hung on clotheslines in the gallery space, while framed 2D work and 3D work will be displayed on tables.
The Cheap Art Show is great fun, has a fabulous turn out, and provides an opportunity for original art to be more accessible - even for just a day - for those with limited means or no room in the budget for higher price tags. Artists who participate often sell prints of their art, or seconds, or take the opportunity to move old pieces out of their studio, or just want to make art more affordable for the day. Other times the art is sold by younger artists - kids and teens - who are talented and want a chance to see what it's like to exhibit and sell their art.
Proceeds are split between artists and C3, which donates money to young, community-oriented artists. Last year's proceeds have been donated to the musical theater program at Frontier Regional Middle and High School.

Hatfield Book Club is holding its'29th annual craft fair on Saturday, November 11 from 9:30 to 3 at the Hatfield Elementary School on Main Street. About 75% of the proceeds of this fundraiser go into the school system - a graduation award, funding declamations, National Geographics, band, and music program with extra funds going to the public library, Council on Aging. Food Bank.
In additions to crafters there will be a bake sale, crafters' raffle, and a grand raffle. Lunch is provided by the Smithsonian.

HARDWICK, MA—On Friday, August 25 at 6:30 pm, the Friends of the Mathieson School will present Give Them Music, a concert in memory of baritone Donald Lee Boothman, to benefit the Mathieson Music School (MMS) of Kolkata, India. International cellist and music educator Anup Kumar Biswas, founder and director of the Mathieson Music School, will lead a broad range of professional musicians through an eclectic program including Western classical music, Broadway show tunes, jazz, Indian classical and folk music, rock n’ roll and even a little country music.
The concert will commemorate baritone and long-time MMS supporter Donald Lee Boothman, who died of cancer on July 6, 2016. Boothman was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Following formal education at Princeton University and Oberlin College, he joined the United States Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants as soloist and announcer. A singer, teacher, and musical commentator, he performed opera, oratorio and concerts throughout the United States Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. He moved to Hardwick, Massachusetts in 1983 and married his wife Kaye in 1987. He met Biswas 17 years ago, when the cellist came to the U.S. to prepare for a concert at Carnegie Hall. The two began performing together, and for many years, Don and Kaye traveled to England and Wales annually to raise funds for MMS. He became a patron “uncle” to the school and its very special students.
Each August, Boothman would bring together talented musicians from Western Massachusetts to give fundraising concerts for MMS. Dr. Peter J. (PJ) McDonald, headmaster of Eagle Hill School (EHS), has long supported these fundraising efforts by sponsoring concerts on the school’s Hardwick campus. This year, Eagle Hill School is entering into a partnership with the Mathieson Music School, bringing together students from these two unique centers of learning, in a musical and cultural exchange that will offer unprecedented educational opportunities to both institutions. Eagle Hill School is sponsoring this concert as a first step in this exchange, reaching out to help MMS raise funds to build new classroom and dormitory buildings at its Kolkata campus.
The performance will feature Anup Kumar Biswas (cello) and his two children, Geetanjali (vocals, cello) and Satyajit (cello, mridangam), along with seven U.S. musicians who are donating their talents: Clifton “Jerry” Noble, Jr. (piano & guitar), Kara Noble (bass), Bob Sparkman (clarinet), Peter Shea (baritone), Jennifer Fijal (mezzo-soprano), Danny Brevik (baritone), and Ben Peterson (cello). They will present a diverse program including classic Broadway love songs such as Some Enchanted Evening and If I Loved You; traditional jazz standards like Honeysuckle Rose and Night and Day; original compositions including Biswas’s rock-and-raga inspired improvisation, Celebration; showstoppers by Sousa and Paganini and a country tribute to our Friends with Tractors.

Long-awaited Breast Documentary Comes The Academy Music
Easthampton, MA (date): For the past four years, Easthampton resident and documentary filmmaker Meagan Murphy and her team have worked to create The Breast Archives, a groundbreaking documentary about women and their breasts. The film features nine women, most of whom were filmed with their breasts exposed. In a series of interviews, they explore, critique and celebrate the complex role of the breasts and their role in body image, health and social identity.
The screening will take place at The Academy of Music in Northampton, MA at 274 Main St, Northampton, MA 01060 on Sunday September 17th. Tickets are available at https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/1521137. The film will begin at 5pm.
Private screenings of the film have been met with inspired and thoughtful dialogue. When the lights come up, audiences are moved to share how the internalization of media images, religion and cultural contexts have influenced their relationships with their bodies and one another. The enthusiastic testimony isn’t limited to breast-havers: men often rave that The Breast Archives has connected them more deeply with the experiences and feelings of their partners.
Murphy is hopeful that the local community will support the film and its aim of engaging all people in a liberating, compassionate and expanded relationship with breasts. The honesty and generosity of the nine women in the film empowers all women to resist and rise above the media’s demands that our womanhood be conformist and that our breasts be perfectly formed, exclusively sexual or solely nurturing.
As the project plans for its first public showing, Murphy is launching an ambitious IndieGoGo fundraising campaign on September 14th in order to raise funds to market the film internationally.
Gently Used Fleece Blankets And Towels Needed For Animal Shelter
My partner asked me to post a request for donations of gently use fleece blankets in particular, or useable blankets and towels for the T.J. Oconnor animal shelter. They posted yesterday on facebook that they are in dire need of clean, useable (preferably fleece) blankets for their charges.
In the past few weeks that have had several litters of kittens and many other pets dropped off and one of their washing machines has broken. They are unable to keep up with clean bedding for their current charges and all these new animals and clean blankets are in short supply.
Please reply if you would like to make a donation. We can collect these items from the UMass campus and have us drop them for you, or you can donate directly to them at the T.J Oconnor Animal Shelter located at 627 Cottage St, Springfield, MA 01104.

We're exactly ONE MONTH away from the first week of the Massachusetts Soccer School Co-Ed Summer Camp.
Our Summer Co-Ed Day camps will take place from July 10th-14th, 17th-21st, and 24th-28th. These camps will be offered as either full-day events ($295 per camp, 9am-3pm), or as half-day events ($195 per camp, 9am-12pm). Campers will have access to the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool during the day, as well as lunch in UMass' Dining Commons, ranked as the #1 Best Campus Food by The Princeton Review. Families registering more than one camper will be granted a 10% discount per additional child.
We will also be hosting Spring/Summer HS One-Day ID Camps on the following dates: July 2nd, and August 6th. These camps are for High School aged players that are interested in playing NCAA Division 1 Soccer at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. All camps are held on campus and are hosted by the Men's Soccer coaching staff. The camp runs from 9am-3pm each day, and cost of attendance is $200, which includes lunch in UMass' #1 Nationally Ranked Dining Commons.
In preparation for the Fall High School season, UMass Men's Soccer will also be offering a High School Pre-Season camp from August 14th-17th. The cost of this co-ed camp will be $125 and will take place from 6pm-8pm.
