I used to live in Huntington, commuted for 5 years,
and it is a lovely place but I would NOT recommend it for commuting to Amherst. The elevation is tricky - and it seems to be its own microclimate, with much more snow and ice than down here on the flatland. In addition, the traffic on Route 9 is increasingly horrid. If you work 9-5 or 8-4 you will have times when it takes you 1 1/2 hours to get home. I never knew of any carpooling going on and PVTA does not run out there.

Sorry to be a downer, but as lovely as Huntington is, for commuting here, it is not good.
