We are happy with Ooma which is a VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). See www.ooma.com.
The monthly fee is less than $20, no charge for long distance in the US, voicemail is on an answer machine and also online.
Initially we did have to buy equipment. When we moved we could set it up ourselves in the new location.
We currently have our cable TV through Spectrum/Charter, and our phone and Internet from Verizon. We are thinking of going with the bundled service from Spectrum, but wonder about the phone service. I'd appreciate any feedback, pro or con, from people who have their phone service from Spectrum. Are you happy with it? How is it different from the traditional phone company?
You may want to check your settings (upper right hand corner). Under Advanced Setting there is a Spam Section. Make sure that save a copy of marked as Spam is checked.
Just a heads up to anyone using a UMass account to email someone with a Comcast account: UMass emails are currently being disappeared by Comcast. They aren't ending up in the spam/junk folder; they simply do not arrive at the recipient's account at all.
This is a Comcast problem, which needs to be fixed by Comcast.
Does anyone out there own or have experience with indoor HDTV anatennae? I'm looking for alternatives to cable but I still want local stations and PBS which are not available on the usual choices.
thanks,
Carol
I love Dr Fred Perry at the Amherst Dental Group. I have going to this practice since the 1960’s. I have been seeing him for the past 10 years after my dentist also in that practice passed away. Dr Perry is very understanding and takes his time to explain proposed treatments and will work within your needs. I had a couple of urgent care situations and the staff are great for getting me in to see him very quickly.
I'm interested in finding a new dentist...doesn't have to be in the Met Life network.
My previous dentist passed away and I have not been able to find anyone I like and trust as much. I'm looking for a very competent dentist who is also sensitive to those who have had bad experiences and need a bit of TLC. So far I've found very kind dentists who don't do as good as job as I expect, and very competent dentists who aren't very patient or communicative with the person in the chair.
Looking for a Endodontis who takes Met-Life. I've been on the phone with Met, the listes they are emialing me most have either retired, no longer are in the practice or take Met-Life any longer.
Check all the places where pipes come out of your house--dryer vents, water pipes, and the like. Mice can get through smaller holes than you'd think. Don't trust the person who installed them. Look for gapes between the vent and the shingles, check to make sure flaps work. Call a handyman in if necessary to check all of them carefully.
This year I have had more mice than ever entering the home, mostly in the basement. Are others experiencing this? Any suggestions other than trapping? I have stuffed some bounce wipes in certain areas where there where spaces around pipes to prevent certain paths from being taken. I can't really tell where they are coming in. Also last night I hear loud noises, like banging, I think from behind my wall on a third floor, and do not know what that could be or how a critter would get in there. Any suggestions for that? It kept me up most of the night! Thanks
I have to dump Comcast for internet; they have been a nightmare. But I cannot have a satellite dish on my house. Is there any other reliable service in the Hampshire/southern Franklin Cty area that is not satellite based?
Looking For Zoo, Petting Zoo Other Close Contact Animal Events
I am looking for local places that have animals in a petting zoo environment. My fiance has anxiety and finds the contact to be a stress reliever and I want to oblige.
We are aware of McCray's in South Hadley, the Lupa Zoo in Ludlow, Forest Park and Look Park zoos. Does anyone know of any other zoos, petting zoos or other place of that sort?
The website for the Hadley Sugar Shack says they won't have their petting zoo open until September sometime. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've posted here. You may or may not know me (likely, you don't) but I'm the website administrator and have been running this website since 2003. Check out this page to learn more about the website's history:
Anyway, as you know, there's a feature here whereby you can receive emails from the website whenever someone posts something. That's a convenient feature and I'm happy to provide it.
However, that good deed comes back to poke me in the eye when someone leaves their job without first unsubscribing from the website email delivery system, and eventually their email address is deleted.
Knowing this happens all the time, I have to keep an eye out for any bounces that come back from university email servers. Sometimes I get distracted and I don't get back to looking for months at a time. In the mean time my email server's reputation is diminished (hey, clearly they told me hundreds of times that so-and-so no longer has an email account at umass.edu or wherever), as the bounces continue to pile up.
NEW WEBSITE POLICY
In the past, whenever something like this happened I would just unsubscribe the person from all emails, thinking that they may someday want to come back and use the account again. Now I'm realizing that I've built up a ton of unused accounts that will likely never get used.
So, starting today, if I receive a bounce email saying your email address is no longer valid, I'm just going to delete the account. No questions asked.
PLEASE take a second to check your account to ensure the email address we have on file is correct.
This message is going to go out to every member of the Five College Social website. If any come back as a bounce, I will delete the attached account. With 1915 members of the website, I'm guessing at least 25% of the accounts are fallow.
I'm asking for recommendations about physical therapists. The person I went to after the first knee replacement has retired. Looking for someone between Sunderland & Greenfield. Thanks.
Hi Carol,
I don't personally know of a free birthday meal offer, but Arizona Pizza (next to the Hadley Cinemark) discounts a person's age as a percentage from their meal. It pays to be ancient! Also, they discount 25% for seniors on Mondays (the 29th) and Thursdays, in case that's applicable to anyone in the party. These offers could bring the bill down down from pricey to affordable.
Have fun, whatever you do!
Dinah
A little late, but are there any restaurants out there that still offer a free birthday meal? Hampshire or southern Franklin county preferred. This used to be a thing, but it seems to have evaporated, and I was looking to do the 29th for someone who has so few birthdays!
